im gonna put a second battery in and i was wondering what type to get. I was thinking of a yellow top optima battery. But i was also looking at the kenetic batterys but they are more expensive. i was also wondering if i had to hook that battery up to my alternator as well or what i need to do.

  1. I use the optimas. I've had them die while still under warrenty, but I use them way harder than most people. If you are really going to be hard on them, you might look for something else.

  2. kinetik all the way. they are more expensive because they are better in all ways. for the inittal hook up buy breaker form autozone. and connect the 2nd batt just like you would an amp. then wire your amp from the back batt. you should be fine.

  3. Yes you can hook it up to the alternator but make sure you put a regulator to only charge one battery at a time.  Simply hooking it up to the alternator will damage it and cause battery failure as well.  For battery type just get a deep cycle you should be fine.

  4. I have used Both Kenetic 2400 (luv it) and Optima (its ok) but the trick is Kenetic is 1 year warranty and Optima has 4 year warranty (prorated)

The choice is Clear, go for the warranty cause car audio is hard on batterys.  Buy the battery from Costco or Auto Zone + keep the receipt.  This way when you need the warranty (most likely you will at some point) its all there.

PAC or Stinger make a good 200 amp Battery Isolator (its like a giant relay that Separates the 2 batteries but still allow the rear battery to charge from alternator).
