can you buy the meat used in thai restaurants at any grocery store or is it best to get it at an international market type place?

  1. It's most likely skirt steak or flank steak.  Flank Steak is the perfect size for many menu items and is an easy cut too inventory. Limited fabrication or trimming time is required, which translates into reduced labor cost for operators.  You can buy this cut very easily in any grocery store.

Actually you can use any type of beef, so long as it's cut thinly (and lean, without much fat) for pad thai, pad see ew or lard nah.  It's just beef, and if you've cooked Thai before (like I have, and I learned from my mother), you can make any type of beef meat taste really good in any Thai dish.

    You can buy it anywhere, and you don't have to get it at any specialty store.

    Thin strips of pork and chicken are also good in those three dishes.  Mmm...making me hungry now, LOL.
