  1. BMX

  2. The Recumbent would be the best choice IMO. There better for riding longer distances and most are set up to have under the seat panniers,  rear luggage racks and seat bags that can carry any thing you need.

Someone said that climbing would be an issue, Not true.Unlike bicycles, most all recumbents come standard with triple chain rings and climbing gears, not to say that you may be a little slower on hills but there is nothing out there you can't climb.

If you're serious about touring check out http://www.catrike.com/ and try a Trike with a Burley Nomad Trailer. When the wife and I go we use a Greenspeed GTT2s with the Burley. It's the only way to go.

  3. Get a Touring bike, they are like a road bike but have a longer wheel base and are made to mount racks on the front and back.  You can also get fenders and the gearing is wider for the hills and extra weight.

  4. Get a hybrid. That is a cross between Mountain and Road bike!  Perfect for cruising! Fuji, Trek, Specialized are all great brands!

  5. recumbents are good for long distance touring The only problem are hills, it's tougher to climb with them. They're also expensive.

The big benefit is that they're fast on flat terrain because they have less wind resistance than a road bike.
