I know she is an appaloosa. But with there being so many different types of appaloosas im not sure which type she is.

I posted a photo of her and some one told me that she was heterozygous appaloosa. I just want to be sure.

plus, isnt she just stunning! im going to start her on jumping soon.

During th winter she gets more red, and at the end of winter she is lots of gray, and during the middle of summer the colors just glow! and there sure are a lot! if you have any appaloosa please post photos of them.

  1. SHe looks like she is a blanket appy. She is very pretty though. I love her markings.

Good luck with the JUMPING ...

I LOVE JUMPING.. it is my passion... Good LUCK

  2. she is definatly an appy. You can tell from the short mane/tail and the spot pattern. Im not sure if i saw it or not, but if she has a white ring around her eye (more pronounced than the normal white of the eye) (also called the sclera) that is another appy trait. I ride an appaloosa and an appaloosa cross and did a project on them.

    she is very pretty!

  3. she is pretty i will post a photo of mine in a bit

  4. she has a nice blanketed pattern. do you know if she IS  a good jumper or not or are you hopeing to train her to be a jumper? personally I think she has a long back and an upright shoulder...but I am not the best with conformation. :P Good Luck with her :)

  5. Hello,

This is a nice Appy mare.  There are NOT many types of Appaloosas, just lots of colors and patterns.

Appys can be very good sport horses and she may make a find jumper for you!

    SHE is very pretty!

  6. Looks kinda quarterhorseish don't take my word for it though. Couldn't tell you for sure unless I could touch her.

  7. she's what's called a blanketed or "snowcapped" app. heterozygous isnt a color pattern and has nothing to do with physical color of the horse. heterozygous refers to a horse's genetic make-up. a heterozygous horse has two different copies of the same gene (like one paint gene and one solid gene, or one black gene and one red gene, or one dominant gene and one recessive gene). a heterozygous horse can pass either copy of the gene to its offspring so it's harder to predict what color or type of foal you'll get from breeding. a homozygous horse has two SAME copies of the same gene (like two black genes, two red genes, two paint genes, etc..) and can only pass that type of gene to it's offspring so it's easier to breed for certain colors or types with two homozygous horses because you know up front what types of genes the parents will pass. the only way to know your horse's genetic make-up is to have her UC davis tested. basically what i'm saying is that you can't call her a heterozygous app... that wouldnt make any sense at all
