Question:

What type of camera do i need?

i'm interested in taking pics of clouds & thunderstorms...stuff like that. what type of camera do you suggest, resonably priced also. I saw the Canon EOS but that thing is waaaay expensive.

    i would look into the nikon DSLR's.

It sounds to me like you would be fine with a good quality Digital Camera with manual adjustments NOT a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex).  I believe Canon, Fuji, Olympus and Sony have good models at reasonable prices.  The most important thing is to make sure that the camera can record in a "lossless" format such as DCF Exif 2.21, RAW or TIFF and that you can set the aperture (size of the lens opening) and shutter speed manually.

    These are the basic requirements to be able to control the image quality and to adjust for effects that you desire.  Some models to look at would include

    You'll need an SLR, so if you can't afford it now, you'd better save up, or consider buying a used one. You can find them on eBay or Amazon.com
