What type of camera is effective for recording cover songs for Youtube?

I'm a youtube musician and I'm looking for a camera that will pick up good sound quality. I'm not really concerned about picture quality, but I would like it to be better than my cheapo webcam...

What brand is good for this, and where can I find one?

If your music is loud, any camcorder with manual audio control. Some of the Sony cams have a menu selection for "Normal" and "Low" - use "Low" for loud audio - it basically reduces the mic gain so the audio circuit is not overloaded. Pic the camera you think you want - but before buying, got to the manufacturer's website and down load the manual - and check for the audio control.

The best method is if the camcorder has manual audio control like the Canon HV20, HV30, Sony HDR-HC7 and HC9 - and these camcorder have 1/8" mic jacks for an external mic (the built-in mics are not good).

The your next step would be a good external mic... I use an Audio Technica AT825... You might be able to get away with an ATR55.

Any Sony camcorder with an active interface shoe can use any mic... if you get http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/47... but not all Sony camcorders have manual audio control or that menu selection mentioned above.
