What type of camra would be best....?

Question

i would like to get a digital camra to take random family pics at bbqs party etc etc

i was wondering what kind is best to go for as the jibber jabba jargon of the infomationa and abilities of a camra gets me confused!!!

I am guessing that for your use, what you would care most about is the size of the camera. And not be super-particular about the image details that enthusiasts worry about. Certainly do not worry about the megapixels. Any camera today has more megapixels than necessary, and at 5MP or higher you have more than enough pixels to print great quality images.

I had a point and shoot camera (Fuji S5000) for nearly 5 years and the three things that I considered important were:

1. Good range for the optical zoom. A huge convenience. I would recommend getting something with at least 8x zoom. The S5000 had a 10x zoom, and I really used most of the range.

2. Shutter lag. This was terrible in the S5000, and in most cases what I was trying to capture was long gone by the time the image was captured

3. Battery type: Most cameras tend to use specialized batteries. But if any of the ones that you like uses regular batteries, that's a plus. Particularly if the battery that your camera uses in no longer available in 3 yrs.

Of the point and shoot cameras, Powershots, the Lumix ones, and Nikon P80 look pretty good.

I have always been a huge nikon fan, and Am very Impressed with the new

Coolpix s550 and S600

-They are both 10+ megapixels (anything over 5 or 6 is great)

-They are the smallest cameras in their class

-They are the Fastest in their class

-They have 4x optical zoom (fairly nice for B-days, Family, ---------Group pics etc.)

-Excellent low light capabilities

-Active VR (vibration reduction-Makes moving things appear-----more clear in pictures   i.e. kids, pets etc.

----very high ISO capabilities, which will allow for high speed -------pictures, or better outdoor things.

Also, Nikon has Better Glass (lenses) Than Canon or Fuji.

I own the S600 and It is great. I absolutely love it.

S550= $210.00

S600= $250.00

i have just bought a pentax s 10

it is a good easy to use camera with high spec
