Hey there, Im buying a laptop off ebay and I"ve just realised that it says it comes with a .56k modem (Which is dial up). Would this be able to connect to a router (by cable) that is broadband speed? If not, what type of interent card/modem would I need?

  1. You don't need anything

Unless it doesn't come with a wireless network card, ..............It will have and Ethernet network card which will allow you to connect to your router at BB speed, but you need to check foe a wireless network card.

  2. No it will not connect to a router as the cable is different. It uses a standard phone line, not a ethernet cable with a RJ-45 connector. You will have to buy either a PCMIA card that gives you an ethernet port or if the router supports wireless, a PCMIA card that gives you wireless capability that is compatible with your router.

Or if the laptop supports USB, you can buy a wireless card that plugs into the USB port on the laptop.

  3. you should check out this site where you can get a sony vaio laptop for free

  4. Make sure you have a wireless router and that your laptop you are going to buy has a wireless card built in so you can access the net without a cable or restriction
