What type of carpet cleaning is best?

does anyone know? i hear that steam is best and that the other kinds where they spray stuff on the carpet leaves residue...

Steam/shampoo. I always rent the ones at the supermarket or hardware stores for a four hour period.

I use Dry Carpet Cleaners like HOST. Its done through dry extraction.

No question,hot water extraction or as it is called steam cleaning is the best. The,powder ,foam and bonnet or pad cleaning was made for areas like hospitals,nursing homes areas that need to dry as fast as possible.These methods are topical or surface cleaning. They work to a point,it is recommended that these be used to touch up these areas,with a steam cleaning used to remove the deep down dirt and sanitize the area as best you can.at regular intervals. Many times I have been called to do a carpet that was just dry cleaned with these methods.They comment what good job I had done.When I started my business I researched and steam was the preferred method. Why would I spend 40,000 dollars for a truck mounted steam cleaner and van to be the best ? If I could buy an 800.00 floor machine  and a 300.00 vacuum and do the same job. In Denver Col. they did a T-V. special on this at a viewers request. They invited a foam cleaner, a powder cleaner,Host, a chem-dry cleaner , and a steam cleaner. This carpet had been used in a eating and drinking area for three weeks at the fair.Guess who won ? The steam cleaner. That's all I can say and that is how it is.
