Question:

What type of caterpillars are harmful?

im kinda afraid to pick up some cuz i dont know if its harmful or not, i raised one once and it grew into a butterfly, it didnt bite me but it had horns that can go in and out. so, i know that some can but i know the types that are. :D

  1. Caterpillars are harmless to people in that they don't bite.  The "horns" you saw on the one you tended to were just a scare tactic to its enemies.  They can't bite or hurt you.

    They grow into butterflies and moths and are more harmful to plants.


  2. I can't think of any of the smooth skinned ones that can sting...you might look up pictures of the PUSS MOTH caterpillar (ASP)...SADDLEBACK caterpillars...and TUSSOCK MOTH caterpillars to see what some stinging ones look like
