Next year I will be a sophomore in high school, so there is still plenty of time to take classes that will prepare me for my future career. What classes or types of classes should I take during the next four years to become an English teacher?

  1. It doesn't matter at all

I promise, it doesn't matter. You'll have to deal with that when you get to college.

  2. First, go to the "Admissions" sites of some colleges that you might possibly want to attend.  Some of the more competitive colleges might require extra years of high school math, for example, compared to what you need to graduate high school.  Make sure to fulfill all of these admissions requirements--whether they are math, social studies, humanties, etc.

Then, when it comes to English courses, I'd recommend you take a variety of literature courses from different centuries if you have the chance--18th century or 19th century for example--possibly even some Chaucer or old english if it's offered.  If you are able to get some exposure to a variety of literature in high school, it can really help you decide what you like (or absolutely hate) when it comes time to choose your college electives in English.  Also writing and public speaking will be helpful to you in college and afterwards.

For summer jobs, try to get them working with children, or possibly even at a newspaper--all good experiences to put on a college admissions application.

    Best of luck!

  3. ...High School is not going to help you with your desire to be a Teacher...  just get good grades and get your diploma...  then, find a good college and build your degree in the field that you want...
