I just bought a 1045 Carbon Steel sword (its a chinese Dadao, but it was made by a japanese sword maker, who usually makes katanas, Mushasi i think).

I am getting the oil I need, but i'd like to know what type of cloth to use. I was told about rice paper, but I cant find that anywhere online. Someone says they just use a regular T-shirt, but I'm not so sure about that. Anyway, thanks in advance.

  1. Use somthing you've never washed with anything not water.

  2. Rice paper is better than cloth, for the rice paper, you can check at http://www.handmadesword.com

    They have a set of maintenance kit which includes all tools you need to clean and maintain your sword: small brass hammer and awl to remove the peg;

    rice paper to spread and clean oil on the blade;

    Ground whetstone power to clean the blade surface;

    Bottle of Choji oil.

    But if you want to use cloth,the cloth should as soft and clean as possible.
