What type of clothes are appropiate for a 12 year old girl to be wearing?

Do you think that short shorts that show your underwear is exceptable worn with a shirt that shows your midriff is an out fit a 12 year old should wear? I believe that if you dress a certain way you might be labeled. I am also afraid that she might be dressing this way to get attention from boys at school, and I THINK IT MIGHT BE THE WRONG TYPE OF ATTENTION SHE WILL GET.

That is absolutely not acceptable for a 15 year old girl, much less a 12 year old!  At that age she should be more concerned with grades and her girlfriends rather than getting attention from boys.  Sadly, this type of dress/attitude has become the norm for pre-teens/teenage girls.  They feel like if they don't dress provocatively then they are not pretty.  If she feels that's the only way to get attention, unfortunately she will fall prey to the wrong type of boys/men.

As a parent, it is our responsibiltiy to teach our children (girls and boys) self confidence.  They can still dress cute while being modest.  If you are the parent put your foot down...clean out her closet of all that type of clothing...and do not allow her to wear it!

I really don't think anyone should be wearing clothes that you can see the underwear (panties or bra).  Showing your midriff is one thing, but no I don't think it is appropriate for 12 yr old or any age during school hours.  Talk to you daughter about the label she is creating for herself.  Talk to her about the right way to get attention from boys, similar hobbies, friendships...   She will definitely be attracting the wrong type of attention.

This sort of clothing is not permitted in most schools I know.  If her parents don't care what she wears than she will wear what she wants.

well.. u shouldn;t be letting her wear that at this AGE!!!!! maybe some designer jeans and a cool t-shirt will make her happy instead of letting her wear whatever she wants, i mean some boys are waaaaayyyyyyy toooo much these days!

im twelve and i shop at hollister. abercrombie. american eagle. and other stores.

let her shop there bu it is kinda exspensive

just dont let her wear really innapropiate like the ones u mentioned

wearing clothing that shows your mid section or underwear is WAYYYYYYY unacceptable and i would never permit it.

She should be wearing cute pairs of jeans and shirts that come down to her waist.

Girls at 12yrs of age don't need to wear anything flattering or revealing, they are still just KIDS and should dress like kids and not like s***s!

well im 12 years old too and i wld never wear that.  there is one girl who dresses like that in my grade and she has turned into a rebel who all of the boys are after in a bad way. i think she should shop at abercrombie, hollister, and american eagle.

I can't even believe that you are asking this question. She's 12 years old for goodness sake. No she shouldn't be wearing short shorts, that show your underwear, grown women shouldn't wear them that short (maybe at a beach, lake, pool). A shirt that shows the tummy. Boys are definitely going to get the wrong impression. She needs to wear nice clothes that fit and cover her up.

Visible underwear is not appropriate for anyone.  I don't have a problem with a girl that age showing a little bit of her stomach (about an inch).

Let me put it this way.  I'm a 27 year old w***e (seriously, I work legally in Nevada) and I wouldn't go out in public showing my underwear.

I also wouldn't expose my midriff at a school, so your step daughter is dressing in a way that even a w***e finds distasteful.

I hope that puts it into perspective.  I'm glad you're concerned but if her mother is encouraging it then I don't know what you can really do.

No she shouldnt dress like that. Really no one who wants to be considered seriously should. I am a woman and its scarey out there. Why risk it.  We should be able to dress anyway we want but unfortunately there are preverts who prey on women and little girls.  

She can dress very stylishly but more covered.  Maybe capri's and a cute shirt.  Shorts and a matching shirt.  Maybe teach er how to sew and she may make her own more modest styles.

You are the parent and you should decide what is appropriate for your daughter to wear.  I agree with you this does seem a little of the top for a 12 year old to be wearing.  She is asking for trouble.  Again you should be setting the dress code.

I agree those are inappropriate clothes for her to be wearing. It gives boys the wrong idea even if she is not meaning that way. I would not let my child wear those kind of clothes. My sister is 12 and she talks to me a lot. I told her that that is the wrong way to get the guys attention. She is about to be a teenager where boys everywhere are going to be looking at her and trying to pressure her into doing things. She needs to start dressing appropriately or something bad could happen.
