  1. I wonder why you need to know the answer to this question!

Maybe it's because you want to buy a gift for someone.  If this is the case you should probably buy some kind of packaged food and not clothing!

If you really want to know what older Japanese people wear then try internet search for old lady brands and shops in Japan!  Old ladies in Japan love Chanel!

When I was in Japan a lot of older women wore medium to long sleeved patterned tops, sometimes with a turtle neck with a pair of wide leg trousers or long skirt.  They cover themselves up even in summer.

Kimonos are super expensive and are usually saved for special occassions.  Yukata (summer kimonos are cheap but only young girls wear them)

When older people go out hiking they always wear a small brimmed hat and are often seen with bum-bags or other such luggage!

In the countryside you see woman in the fields planting rice wearing staw bonnets with a head scarf around them!  It really depends on the occassion!

    Hope this helps!

  2. They wear boring old lady clothes! Polyester, appliqued sweaters w beads and ribbons. Once I saw a lady wearing a sweater that was appliqued w witches and cats and jack o' lanterns, and it was nowhere near Halloween. They also wear dorky hats a lot. Lots of ladies seem to a be pretty thin on top (aka bald), I guess that's one reason for the hats. . . .

  3. They dress like older women.

Some of them look like frumps, some are fairly stylish in their own ways, some wear clothes that don't cover their adult diapers, and some wear national dress, but not all the time, at least not in this suburb

Many of them also have the ultimate accessory, a lap dog. Many's the time I've seen an old lady who can barely walk, PUSHING a dog around in a dog-buggy. Odd, as the dog needs the exercise more than the woman, and would get more benefit from it too.

  4. i think they wear kimonos . it also depends on what part of japan your talking about. in rual areas the for sure wear kimonos

  5. They were really boring, old, plain, and dark colored clothing. It's probably one of the worst countries for choice of clothing for the elderly. If they were anything remotely fashionable, then they live in a big city. If they are fashionable, then they live in a huge city. Here are some obaachan examples:
