  1. That terrain looks very familiar to me.  I grew up in Lawton, Oklahoma.  Anyway, that looks like the forward edge of an individual  thunderstorm within a somewhat longer line of storms.  The slight lowering looks like a diffuse shelf cloud, which is not uncommon in thunderstorms, and is not tornadic in nature. I can see some detachment and raggedness of the clouds toward the far left edge of the picture, which is likely a small roll cloud, also characteristic of the forward edge of a storm  Very nice picture, by the way!

I thought it was the Wichita mountains.  I spent many younger years there.

  2. no doubt..it is NIMBUS!!!....but i think it is not just a cloud..,,

  3. Those are cumulonimbus clouds.  The smoke like feature on the horizon to the left is distant rain.    BTW-"nimbus" is not a type of cloud but a suffix one associates with a cloud to designate rain.  Thus: Cumulus + nimbus.

  4. I lived in Walter, OK for a short while when I was 3 or 4 years old.  My mother would call that a "Head for the storm shelter" cloud.  We were from New England and Mum got nervous after reading about tornados.  The first answer is excellent and I also agree it is a fantastic picture.

  5. Ah, thunderstorms such as those are why my husband wants to take me down to Oklahoma. Absolutely awe-inspiring!

    Great picture!
