  1. There's no specific computer class to take. Being a meteorologist comes with taking the appropriate courses and actually studying for them. There are so many people out in the world who claim to be "meteorologists" but never opened a credible book in their life let alone no what the terms mean or how the atmosphere truly works, they copy others work and make it their own or better yet just go to a weather site and copy down what they see. They are just merely reporters who woke up one day thinking 'it looks easy, I'll do it'. But it's not. That's why real meteorologists get frustrated, they make us look bad.

You need to take classes like an intro to meteorology class, weather analysis, Kinematics and thermodynamics, mathematics in meteorology, Calculus all the way through differential equations, physics and chemistry. As well as Synoptic meteorology, weather forecasting, and physical meteorology. Sometimes there is a computer course built into the major. All meteorologist just take a basic computer science class to show that they are competent in programming, you can take a computer class that is Linux based or FORTRAN. At least at my school it's a requirement. You should also get familiar with GIS software. Most of the software once you get a job or internship will be explained to you but the main programs meteorologist use are either "Weather Central" or "WSI", there are two more but those are the top two.
