Lastime I bought the wrong one and it blew up! I am told the regular converter won't handle a hairdryer or curl iron.

  1. What you need is one of these:

    Unfortunately that's a UK supplier.

Amazon have an interesting selection - find out what the Wattage is on your stuff (heating coils are usually quite power hungry) and choose appropriately.

I suppose I should point out that at 110V you are 'pulling' twice the current that a 230V device would pull for the same power (Wattage).

Have you considered butane gas curling tongs? They work brilliantly, although you can't carry the butane on planes.

  2. you'll need the 3 pronged kind like this http://iswc2005.semanticweb.org/images/P...

you can use the irish one in britain also

  3. If your electric device can take 220V, all you'll need is an adapter. However it sounds like that's what you did last time - what you really need if you're going to be using 110V devices is a transformer. Radio Shack sell them.

  4. I have to ask, what do  you use a curl iron for?

  6. I will assume you are from USA.......Buy a travel iron & travel hairdrier in the airport shop so that you can use them worldwide.  Leave your own at home, NO PROBLEMS.

LATER......"fishywik" mentioned a transformer,    a transformer necessary to supply enough wattage to an iron would cost $100 and weigh    30 pounds    it would cost a fortune in excess baggage,
