I have a Sony CCD-TRV58 Hi8, which uses the 8mm tape. I use Pinnacle Studio 11 for film editing. I put an S video cord to the camcorder, to my laptop. Nothing happened. What should I click on or do next? I'm not even sure if I am using the right cord.

  1. What type of a computer are you using?? Is it a laptop or a desktop??

  2. Hey pink,

You first have to import the Hi8 footage into your computer via fire wire(IEEE 1394) cable. Then open your video editing program to convert the video file for DVD, and open your DVD program to burn the file to DVD. Check out the source for more information..

  3. If your camera doesn't have firewire: go to capture in Pinnacle and find where you can change the capture settings. It'll probably be set to firewire as the default. Change it to s-video and you can then capture it.

  4. If this is a dv camcorder.....Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder.

If this is an analog camera.......

You need an analog converter, either internal card or external such as the dazzle. It's very easy to use and come with good software. You would hook your analog VHS camera to the analog converter, the dazzle and then hook the dazzle to your PC. The dazzle cost around 70.00 , but worth the money if you have a lot of VHS to tapes to convert.

  5. i would use a firewire cord, my video camera uses hi8s too and i transfer my video using a firewire.
