What type of countertop for new kitchen?

Anything else with the stone look that is not stone? No granite ....as I've heard some stories as far as the rock itself possibly releasing small amounts of radiation into the home. So I'm trying to avoid stone, but I love the look. Is there anything else out there? Links to pictures would be greatly appreciated as well ! Thank you!

  1. Concrete is extremely popular although expensive.

A less expensive and great looking alternative to stone would be the mesh 2 x 2 "stone" effect tiles ( each mesh sheet has 6 x 6 , 2" square tiles).  They are sold at most home improvement stores, in fact I purchased mine at Home Depot.  My entire kitchen countertop re-vitalization cost me less that $300 and I receive compliments on the tops every time I have visitors!

Just mud your existing tops and place the 1ft square tiles directly to your tops, let set, seal and voila - brand new, cost effective, expensive looking new countertops.

    Good luck!

  2. there  is a fake granite that is nice and easier to care for. i don't know what it is called but any home improvement store will have it.

  3. I think you should determine what look you are going for before you decide. If you are going for a more modern look, granite would be the way to go. It is very polished and sleek. If you are going for a more rustic, traditional look...perhaps you should consider Sandstone or a Stained Concrete. All of these are good options but remember...check and make sure of the upkeep (whether they need to be sealed, etc.),  make sure they are able to handle water and heat well and stain resistant.

  4. reconstituted stone is what you're after, it's harder than granite and looks heaps better in my opinion i think it's a little bit cheaper too
