the chipped off part is lost, so they'll need to provide their own material, and glue it together or something. so , what is this procedure called? thanks

The material used to fix a chipped tooth is called composite resin. It's a moldable plastic material that they can shape to look like the original tooth structure. After they mold the resin into place, they shine a special light on it that immediately hardens it. It's not a hard procedure and shouldn't take too long.
