I might move to Florida next year and my parents said we can get a dog. My siblings are under 10 years old and I'm just above 10. We would like a kid-friendly one and one that loves water.

My sisters and I love puppies and so small dogs will do.

Thanks!

  1. A dog that does not have a lot of fur and loves water

  2. i wouldnt  get no yorkie terrier or chihuahua or even no pit bull, or no bulldog because they sometimes aint good for under ages kids like if you said you have a 2 year old brother . some times they dont like little children depend if get step on or biten . they do bark alot and even theyre more hard to train . i feel bad for me because i own a yorkie she barks too much and even get crazy and doesnt like little kids. theyre not easly to takecare of .

but you can check out these other breeds of dogs instead.

    for herding breeds group

giant schnauzer origin from germany ,they weight about 55-80lbs.however, with consistent training and plenty of exercise , this energetic and intelligent breed makes an excellent pet.

bouvier des flandres origin from belguim, theyre weight is 59-90lbs.and height 22-28inches , life exp; 10-12 years live

however, in generla , the breed os quite hardy, and makes a loyal pet, as well as being used for police work, search and rescue missing people and stuffs and as a guide dog.

  3. golden retrievers make the most perfect family pets. they love water, loyal, obedient, and family-oriented.

saint bernards also make EXCELLENT family pets. they love doing things with family, including swimming, and will also be your gaurdian and protect you. you just have to be okay with their huge size and some saints drool.

another possibility is a bernese mountain dog. again, excellent dogs and will be your playmate and protector. my berner proved to be the best dog that i have ever had in my whole life. the only problem with them is that they are expensive.

ive had all three types of dogs: a golden, berner, and saint. trust me--all 3 were/are wonderful dogs. they loved to swim, LOVED family, and definately loved kids. They were all dogs that any family would want.

but remember that any dog can be the perfect family pet with love and the right training.

  4. I think you should get a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.

These dogs are gentle and affectionate.

    Love to play.

    Love kids.

Are very energetic to keep up with a family with children.

    They love water.

    Are easily trained.

They are a medium sized dog...varying in height from 17-21" and weighing between 35-55 pounds

The pups can be a little obnoxious, as can most pups, so children should not be unsupervised with the pup.  They need to be active so they don't get bored and become a problem.

But, with all the kids...I have no doubt that they will have an active and full life!

  5. Lab or Golden Retriever, They have the greatest personalities, love the water and are great with kids.

  6. English Springer Spaniel, they LOVE water. Plus there really friendly.  Although some have a little attitude on them, but it depends on what kind you get. :)

Weimaraners They also love to swim. And are super cute when there puppies. There Happy, loving cheerful, affectionate and very rambunctious. :)

Golden Retrievers, Retrievers are born loving the water. Great family dogs. And i personally think these dogs are the sweetest dogs ever! They are very good with children and other animals and are very playful. :)

Doxies (dachshund), Most doxies love the water. They are small too, so you don't have to worry about them when there around small children. :)  But some also have an attiude around children, once again depends on the type you get.

And theres plenty more, but those are the ones i recommend

  7. go to this website and take the quiz to find which dog breed is right for your family!

    http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm

    good luck!   :)

  8. Good for you for researching breeds.  You're on your way to being a good dog person!

If you want a family dog who likes water, Labs are a good choice.  But they aren't small.

Maybe you could check out rescue groups.  They might have a puppy you just fall in love with!

    Good luck!

  9. Pugs are small dogs that act like big dogs. They are great with kids and so much fun to play with. They can be somewhat stubborn but they can be trained easily with some patience. I hope this helps. I have 2 and they are the best things ever. I love them!

  10. You have to get a shetland sheepdog. I have one and she is amazing. She goes camping with us, swims, goes on the boat with no problem, and absolutely loves kids. She isn't that large either, only about 20 pounds, but she has the energy and playfulness of a golden retriever. She is also very smart, I was able to house train her and teach her tricks in about a week, seriously she is very very smart.

  11. A labrador is your best bet for a water loving dog, or maybe a water spaniel, they are adorable. Some sheepdogs like water.... it depends on how you raise it and how it was raised. or a Portuguese water dog. They can and will be good with kids depending on how you raise them, get the dog as a puppy. German shepherd dog, pit bull, or american staffordshire terrier.  Newfoundland... here's facts and info on each breed... info from dogbreedinfo.com give them credit not me... he he

    here's a link   http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/purebred.htm...

Lab:There are two types of Labradors, the English Labrador and the American Labrador. The English bred lab comes from English bred stock. Their general appearance is different. The English bred labs are heavier, thicker and blockier. The American bred Lab comes from American bred stock and is tall and lanky. The Labrador Retriever is a solid, muscular dog, slightly longer than tall, with a short, hard, easy-care, water-resistant double coat that does not have any waves and comes in solid black, yellow, or chocolate. There is also said to be a rare silver or gray color that is referred to by the AKC as a shade of chocolate. This color is controversial and some claim it is a Weimeriner cross, while others say it is a true mutation. The Labrador has a broad head, thick nose, scissors bite and a pronounced stop. Its muzzle is fairly wide and its neck is powerful. The eyes are chestnut or hazel with an intelligent expression. The medium-sized ears are pendant. The otter tail is strong, thick near the body then tapering, and completely covered with hair. Its limbs have good bone structure. The webbed feet aid in swimming.

water spaniel:The American Water Spaniel is an active, muscular and hardy dog. It has a crisp-textured, tightly curled or wavy outer coat lined with a protective undercoat. Coat colors include liver or chocolate - sometimes with a small white spot on the chest. The skull is broad with a moderate stop. The medium length muzzle is square and smooth. The ears are long and covered with curls and the medium length head is moderately long. The nose is either dark brown or black. The eye color should correspond with the coat color in shades of brown or hazel. The teeth meet in either a level or scissors bite. The feathered tail tapers, hanging with a slight upward curve. The tail is used as a rudder in swimming.

Portuguese water dog:The Portuguese Water Dog is a hardy, muscular, medium-sized dog. The coat varies from flat, wavy, shiny type to a thick, open curl, to a tight curl. Two coat clips are used: One clip with the face and rear shaved, and the working retriever or pet clip where the dog is scissored so the coat appears to be about an inch long all over. The single-layered, non-shedding, virtually hypo-allergenic coat comes in black, white or brown, parti-color (white with dark spots), black or brown with white markings, or even silver fox or gray. The body is slightly longer than it is tall; solid and sturdy. The topline should be straight and level. The brisket should reach the elbows, and chest should be broad. The head is large and broad on top with a pronounced stop occiput. The top of the skull should appear rounded. The heart-shaped ears hang down beside the head, but should not hang beyond the lower jaw. The eyes are dark and the teeth meet in a scissors or level bite. The tail starts out thick near the body, then tapers. The legs are very straight, strong and parallel. It has more webbing between the toes than many other breeds, which aids in swimming.

  12. I would suggest a black lab, very friendly, family oriented dogs who LOVE water.

  13. Purebred dog: Great Dane.  They are excellent family dogs.  They are great with kids.  They are great pillows.  Be forwarned though, they steal the covers. They intimidate a lot of people because of their size.  Ours are protective of their people.  Will get between us and strangers.  One loves the water whether hose, sprinkler, pool, puddles, etc.

Other than Danes, I agree with the other poster who said to check out the local animal shelters.  Not only can you find purebred animals there, but mutts are the best.  Great personalities, great mix of different types of dogs.  And most of all, if you are careful, you will find a dog that appreciates you more because it KNOWS that you gave it a second chance.

  14. Lab sounds like the dog for you! They are good with kids, very active and LOVE to swim! But be sure to do some research and discuss it with your parents to make sure that they agree with you on the size of dog that you are wanting, as labs are pretty big! You seem like a very smart girl for preparing this far in advance!

  15. I would suggest labs too, like everyone else. They are not the perfect dog, but every dog has flaws. They are friendly, and they are the most popular dog in America, but also on the top ten list of dog attacks. Since you will be in Florida, you should get a dog with short fur, so they won't die in the heat. If you want a small dog, beagles are good to, but i'm not sure if they are water dogs. go to www.dogbreedinfo.com, and you can take the breed selector quiz, to see which breeds best suit you, and you can also read about some of your favorites, and pick one, good luck :)

  16. Beagle. Love kids, and love to play.

  17. Definitely a lab.  I have a black one and a chocolate one.  They are great with kids and love the water!

  18. labrador retriver or golden retriever!

I have a yellow lab puppy and hes sooo cute. labs and goldens are both swim dogs, snow rescue dogs, fire rescue dogs (only labs i think), agility dogs (both) loyal (both), blind mans dog (only labs, i think), military dogs (labs), and cure and help people with type 2 diabetes (labs) i dont know much about that diabetes with the labs cureing people. i think they l**k the person or something like that. look into it more

BUT I WOULD SAY LABS CAUSE THEY ARE A LITTLE BETTER IN WHAT THEY CAN DO AND THEY SHED ALOT LESS HAIR

AND CHECK OUT THIS DOG BREED SELECTOR

and check out this video from the nationalgeograpgic channel

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpN4Gd1ht...

    those are labs and goldens

    theyre really smart

    I REALLY HOPE I HELPED!
