What type of dog would be best?

My family wants to get another dog. We have one dog who is a mix of so many different types of dogs, the only one we can tell is in her is red & white setter. She gets lonely during the day when we're gone, so we want a dog that will get along with her. We have a large backyard and can exercise the dog. We were thinking about an australian shepherd, border collie, welsh corgi, or a shetland sheepdog. What breed/s*x would be best?

  1. Akita!!

  2. any dog will probably be fine unless you get a lazy dog like a mastiff. most dogs are playful anyway so its really just a personal preferance. Maby you want an akita or rottweiler to watch the house while your gone? or some other dog for a different reason. depends on what You want

also as person above me said, check out shelters first because you could save a good dog, and also labs are good dogs.

  3. Male Aussie

  4. It would depend on the temperament of the dogs, but generally, I think a male and female would get along better than two females.  Take your dog along with you when you look for a new dog.  Let her choose who she wants to be her companion.  Sometimes two dogs meet and you can just tell they're going to be great friends.  That's what I would be looking for.  Whether that dog is male/female or purebred/mixed breed won't matter if both dogs get along.

  5. What ever breed you decide to get dont get the same s*x as they will fight.

  6. It mostly depends on what you want. I'd suggest going to Wikipedia, where they have articles on common breeds. As long as you can deal with any special needs of the breed, it's all really up to you. As for a dog that would get along with the one you already have, the personality can vary greatly between individual dogs, so no particular breed is better than others.

  7. Go to your local shelter!you will find the dog that is right for you and your dog.

  8. Well out of your choices i think you should get the border colli or welsh corgi..But if i had to pick a diff. breed it would probaly be a beagle b/c they are soo friendly and sweet, also very playful :)

  9. Labrador Retrievers always been my personal fav. They like people/kids and other animals. If you go to certain breeder websites they provide a lot of great info on dog species. Good luck on finding a new doggy!

  10. Why not take a trip to the shelter and see if you can't find one that suits your family's lifestyle?

Sheep herding dogs need tons of exercise and training-they are bred with barrels of energy in order to spend long days running with the sheep. They are very intelligent, and get bored very easily-even with the company of another dog. If you and your family feel up to it and are willing to take lots of time of time to commit to training, then it won't be a problem-but it's absolutely necessary to train and understand the way herding breeds' minds work.

  11. Any dog is good, as long as you adopt it, and provide it with a loving home

  12. Australian shepherd because they are very sweet loving and a good watch dog, I have one my self.  you should get another girl because they would get along better like my two girl dogs they are very friendly to each other and to us so I hope this helped.

  13. Get a border collie, they have a great attitude and are great companions for other dogs.

  14. well since everyone is saying what kind of dog they have, i will say my dog and another kind of dog:

    1. GOLDEN RETRIEVER. goldens are great! they are easy to train, and love other dogs, and are SOO cute! and a big backyard is good for goldens. heres a pic:http://www.breederretriever.com/photopos...

_LOVE001_GOLDEN_RETRIEVER.JPG          and here is an adult golden:

http://www.dogsindepth.com/sporting_dog_...                                      2. LABS. they have the same things as golden retrievers except they shed a little less.      pics: fist one is all 3 kinds of  puppy labs, and second one is all three kinds of labs but as adults:      http://www.toybender.com/wp-content/uplo...      the first is a black lab, the second is a chocoalte lab, and the third is a yellow lab, and same order for the adult labs   http://www.barefootlabradors.com/Chocola...     http://www.sandpointinsider.com/UserImag...          now adults:      http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co... http://www.pointinglabtx.com/chocolate_l...      http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co...                             note: most of the puppies are really young so keep looking at more pics!

    hope this helped!

  15. boy teacup yorkieee<33333333

  16. A GOLDEN RETRIEVER!!!!!! its very cute and likes to exercies

  17. I have a mini collie, he barks at everything but they are so cute. I like welsh corgis too! That would be my choice. =]

  18. i would go to your local shelter and take your dog with you to see if you can find one it gets along with! & you would be saving its life :)

well you could always get another girl dog or fixed boy dog unless your female is fixed because my boy dog & my neighbors female are both fixed and i think they have little crushes on each other cause they always hang around together :)

  19. If your dog is spayed get a male and nueter him. Dogs get along with the opposite s*x better than the same s*x. I think an Australian Shepherd would be best out of the dogs you have listed.  Although, if you are looking for other ideas on breeds Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers are always sweethearts. But once you own one, you are hooked on that breed and once it dies you get another one....and you end up living the rest of your life with that breed!!! =]
