Question:

What type of dress is best for my body type

5 foot 8 inches tall

Almost no hips

I'm busty

I'm chunky haha, so I dont like things that are fitted.

I don't want to wear heels (I would be taller than my fiance' then!) so im open for suggestions on flats, too.

I think that I want sleeveless/strapless, and I want a long dress with a moderate length train (or perhaps no train.) I've heard that A-Line dresses are pretty good for almost any type of body, and raised waistlines are good for hiding a not-so-toned body.

  1. a line dress

  2. Strapless works great if you are busty and have what it takes to keep the dress up. As for a "not so toned body," you wear a corset underneath that flattens you out pretty good. A-line is fitted through the waist and then flares out (which would hide the lack of hips) and a ballroom/princess style would do the same thing to accentuate your bustiness and hide the lack of hips. Also, empire waists are flattering if you are busty and it hides the tummy if you want to do that. Check out www.theknot.com and search the dresses by style. You can see how some of the dresses might lay.

  3. A line dress. show off your heavy part ( the chest) with something strapless, and the dress should go out ( like an A) to give the illusion of hips. Some cute flats, black ones are usually a hit.

  4. I would not suggest a strapless dress for your body type. If you are busty then it sounds like a halter a-line might be better.

  5. I would go with a Strapless, a-line dress.

Now With strapless Make sure you get it fit and perfect for your bust.

So you will not have to keep pulling it up.

[this one will look very good, since you say you are "Chunky" It will not show it.]

    SHOES--

    Now since you want flats....

There is not alot of "CUTE" flats for the bride.

Anothe good idea is to do flip flops.

  6. I would wear a dress that isn't strapless because sometimes its too hard when your busty. So, I would get one with thicker straps so you could wear a supportive bra. Then something that floats away from the body. Here are some examples:

  7. A-line with an empire waist. So gorgeous and will show off your great assets while forgiving the things you don't want to show off.

  8. Empire waists would be good for you. *nods*

  9. I am 5 4 and have a 34ddd bra. I am busty also. I too have some what of a stomach. Don't wear strapless of your busty. Bad Idea, the last thing you want is to be pulling at your dress to keep up. I have an A-line organza dress.

    You got it, sista!

  11. A-line, empire waist, princess seams.

Have sleeveless, that way you don't have to worry about wearing a bodice made for women who are smaller than you without anything to hold it up.

Get something that's fitted and has detailing (such as ruching or lace) to disguise anything you're unhappy with. It will slim you down a lot more than something really large.

  12. A strapless dress with boning in the bodice will help keep the dress in place and show off your bust line. If you want to enhance the bust a sweetheart neckline will do the trick. If you want to minimize the chest go for a halter style.

The A line will be very flattering as well as something with rouching in the mid section.

    Something like this..http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?...

  13. you're right. an A-line would be good for you. you say you don't want anything fitted, but a fitted bodice would actually give you some curves and having the structure will hide anything you aren't so happy about. check out maggie sottero & david's bridal websites (maggiesottero.com & davidsbridal.com) they will having something you like.

what you shouldn't wear is sheath or mermaid. the sheath has no structure and will not hide anything, and the mermaid is fitted to the knees, and is best for women who are fit and want to show off their bodies. I also reccomend you wear at least spaghetti straps, because it would be very bothersome for a busty girl to wear strapless.

  14. Ok - the standard ball gown sounds like it would suit you quite well.  Personally I am not generally a fan of the empire waist line (coming in just under the b***s) as it often makes the girls look pregnant.  A line skirts are definately nice but to create an hourglass figure you can afford to wear a lovely big skirt if you wish.  My mind goes to Maggie Sottero for dresses.  Here are some I think would be nice...

Have a look through the rest of her collection - there are heaps to choose from.  Try and find styles that have a corsetted bodice to pull in your waist - but make sure they don't fit over the hips as (from your description) this won't look so good on your body.  If the skirt flows out from the waist that is the best look.  (And generally any bows or detailing around the waist is not a good idea either - however if they are on the hips it will make your hips look wider which is good.)  But your best bet is to try on a bunch of dresses and just see what you like.

My other opinion is that you may not want to choose a strapless dress - I have seen so many brides spending their whole day 'hitching' their dresses up and trying not to fall out of them... just something to keep in mind!

Oh - and apart from the ballet slipper type shoe here are some other options...
