  1. A cheap one, i would suggest a acoustic first off as well. if you are just learning you don't want a electric (lot of maintaince) and if you start using an effects peddle before you learn the basics you will suck later on, a friend of mine never played a acustic before and he played my thin one (about the same width of a electric but with full sound!) and he sucked with it royally, he would always play with distortion on, while there is nothing wrong with distortion, you can't learn to play guitar effectivly with it, learn to play clean then learn to play sick!!!

an acoustic is not a "grandpa's guitar" it is a guitar, and if you can't play that, then you can't play at all.

  2. I'd say some good choices would be an Epiphone Les Paul Special II or if you want to go the Fender route, a Squire strat.

You can get either of these guitars for somewhere in the $150 range, leaving you some money for a small practice amp.  Or you can go for a beginner's package with the guitar, amp, and cord for somewhere around $250.

  3. any beginner (inexpensive) guitar should be fine 150-300...its the cords for the amp or the amp that you might consider investing in a bit better pieces of eqpt.

  4. You can get the Epiphone SG Special value pack for $219

I would eye that Epiphone amp with suspicion though.  You could get the same guitar separately for $169 and then a Fender or Marshall 10-15W for like $80 or my preference, the VOX 15R for $120.  It depends on what style you're looking to play.

If you already have an amp, better quality would be a used Epi SG or an MIM Standard Strat or Tele. which you could easily find $300.

  5. if you are VERY serious about guitar then get a real one to start. i suggest a strat. you DONT have to get it tomorrow- but get out there and try these to see if you really want to lay down the cash for a nice guitar. real nice sg's (gibson) are wicked expensive. a mexican standard strat is 4-5 hundred bucks and that will get you SOOO much farther than any squire/starter combo

  6. You need to go to your local store and try a bunch of guitars out and see what works best for you. I can recommened a bunch of guitars in your price range but none of them might be what your after or they may not feel right in your hands. But to start look at the standard offerings from Epiphone and Squire. See if one feels better then the other. Also if you are on a tight budget and a beginner try an acoustic, they will cost less and used your money will go farther, plus it's better to start with an acoustic as it builds the hand muslces up faster then an electric becuase of the shorter scale and higher tension on the strings.

  7. well sgs r like really exspens. 300 will not get u far. oh and dey r heavy (i may b a girl but my guitar teach said HIS knee was like really hurting afta we played 4 like an hour.

    i am a beginer 2 n i have a fender it is really good 4 bout 3-5 hundred.
