I am moving my horse home in a few months and I was told that the 1.5" electric tape was best. However, my trainer at the facility I currently board at said the tape can collapse and break under the weight of heavy snow. We get several feet of snow each year in addition to one or two ice storms. What will last longer with less maintainence: 1.5" tape or the braided electric wire (usually yellow and black)?

  1. I live in new england and we get wet heavy snow and or ICE!!!

I use the 1.5" tape and love it. Just make sure that you use strong corners and if it is a long run between corners I put a t-post just to give it alittle more strength.

I know that someone said that they use wire, please do not use wire as it can and will do alot of damage to your horse if by chance they try to go thru it.

  2. The 1.5 tape is great. It is easy for the horse to see, expecialy when they are goofing off and run into it by accedent. But down here in south Texas we don't have to worry about snow. EVER! The last time it snowed here was in the 80's, so I've heard. When we where in Northern Nevada we used the braided wire due to the snow. I would suggest that you get some of that orange caution tape to tie little ribbons on streaches of wire so it is easier for the horse to see. Luck

  3. What I've used for 10 years and never collapased was  electrobraid.I really recamend it!

  4. I guess I'm old school...I use #9 wire.  I also get lots of snow and deer break anything lighter.  I have more problems with the plastic insulators breaking than the wire.

    Good luck!
