  1. Harley can not void your warranty for not using their oil. I use Drag 4 20-50 synthetic oil for my 05 Road King with no issues.

  2. 20 /50

  3. I have always used Lucas 20 W 50 in my Harley's with no problems in over 50,000 miles

  4. Use the recommended oil you can get at your dealer, filters as well.

  5. I usually run Amsoil 20-50 in my Buell. I tried the Synth3 from HD last time and I got a lot of top end noise. I looked online and found several other people with the same experience. I am going to go back to Amsoil with the next change though.

My friend swears by the HD conventional. He says the basic engine was designed pre-synthetic, and that's what it ws designed to use. I don't know if I follow his logic, or even agree, but I just thought I would throw that in for comparison since he has been riding for decades and never had an oil related problem.

I think synthetic oil is a waste in a car, but with the high operating temperatures of a large air-cooled twin, I think it's worth the extra money. That, and the bike only holds 2 quarts, so it isn't like the price per quart is a deal-breaker.

I doubt you will go wrong with the factory stuff though.

  6. I would use the Harley approved oil from the dealer. It has better shear properties and won't void your warranty

  7. Since they have seperate engine and clutch fluids I cannot see why you could not use any old 20-50 oil.  Don't own a hardly though so you may wish you listen to what the rest of the flock offers you for a suggestion.
