  1. Mechanical engineers have to take two courses. Statics and Dynamics. Statics is the study of forces upon static, or non moving systems. This is a prequel to Dynamics. Dynamics is the study of forces upon moving systems. Statics is usually for Civil Engineering students and Dynamics is usually for Mech. Engineering students. But both classes are usually required for both majors.

    Hope this helps

  2. well physics is essential to all engineering courses along with maths.  But the area of physics that deals with forces and motion is known as classical mechanics or newtonian mechanics (opposed to quantum mechanics) and probably mechanical engineering is the course that uses these topics the most. like someone said mechanics is split into two topics statics and dynamics which are governed by newtons laws of motion hence why its sometimes known as newtonian mechanics.  like someone said civil engineers will study this subject as well however they many deal with the statics side, also other courses will study mechanics such as architecture and also building services. if you are thinking of choosing a course solely because you enjoy topics to do with forces and motion then engineering isn't for you because even mechanical engineering which uses mechanics more than any other course contains a massive amount of different topics you might not like such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, material science, lots of CAD (computer aided design) and many more.  choosing what to study if a difficult choice so make sure you reasearch everything to do with each course before you choose.

    hope ive helped
