  1. Nothing required, per se, other than having reached thirty-five years by inauguration and been born in the US.

  2. None.

The ONLY qualifications, legally speaking, to be president are:

--be a natural born U.S. citizen

--35 years of age or older

--lived in the U.S. for at least 14 years

There used to be a desire for citizen statesmen, not career politicians. That's why these are all the requirements our Founders saw fit to lay down as qualifications for office.

What type of experience do I look for in a candidate that I'm going to vote for?

Not a lot actually. That's what policy advisers, 15 cabinet positions, undersecretaries, daily briefings, and a joint-chiefs staff is for. Even someone with a lot of foreign policy or economic experience will consult these people before acting.

The president is a public face for policy ideas. So, what I look for is a track record of leadership, an ability to inspire, an ability to make quick, tough decisions, and an ability to surround themselves with those with good ideas and knowledge in their area of specialty. I want a leader who can listen to advice and ideas and synthesize the right solution from all the information he or she is given.

FDR, JFK, Reagan...these men didn't come up with half the plans and initiatives they enacted or 99% of the laws they signed--but they sold the visions for them to the masses. Kennedy didn't come up with NASA, but he sure as heck popularized it and led the people into supporting it. He led the change, if he had the experience to conceive of it or not. And he wasn't alone in that Office while dealing with the Cuban missile crisis or talking to the Russian president. But he listened to everyone and was able to make the right decision based on their advice. That's what mattered.

  3. According to the lack of experience Obama has, just a face.
