A - diverging lenses

B - bifocal lenses

C - converging lenses

D - plano-convex lenses

E - double convex lenses

I'm thinking B - Bifocal lenses.

Anyone have a ''scientific" explanation as to which it would be?

Thanks!

  1. The answer is A, a diverging lens is the same as a concave lens. C,D and E are all various kinds of convex lenses which are the opposite of what you would need to correct nearsightedness. In theory, bifical lenses could be an answer if the top part was definately concave but it does not specify this is the case, so I would use A as the answer.

When someone has nearsightedness the light entering the eyeball focuses in front of the retna. This could be because the cornea, which acts like a convex lens, (in addition to the lens IN you eye) is slightly too curved, so it is slightly too strong of a lens and focuses the light in a shorter distance than it should. In other cases, the cornea is OK, but the eyeball is a little too "long" (front to back) so, again, the image focuses before it gets to the retna. In either case, a concave lens of the proper strength to bring the focus back to being on the retna corrects the problem.

    I hope I didn't create further confusion!

  2. None of these answers are correct. To correct nearsightedness doctors use concave lenses.

  3. The answer would be "A" Diverging lenses, they diverge light allowing a nearsighted person to see distance objects.

A bifocal could also be used to correct nearsightedness if the top portion for distance is a diverging lens.  It is just a lense with two different powers.  It may be used if a nearsighted person is starting to experience presbyopia.

Converging lenses are used to correct farsightedness or presbyopia.

Plano Convex lenses have no lens power.

I am not sure what a double convex lens would be used for.

    Hope this helps
