I'm 6'1 about 175 and 19 years old, I ride a ...lost mayhem 6'10" thruster w/ fcs boxes. I just started surfing about a month ago but I get out often and I'm progressing really fast (years and years and years of snowboarding, wakeboarding, bodyboarding, skateboarding). My board has the standard black fcs fins, plastic i think, and I know there are much better fins I can use, what model do you recommend?

  1. http://www.surffcs.com/home.cfm?region=1

    here is the website.

  2. use what ur comfortable with

  3. There are a variety of FCS fins out there. I just got a lost SDII in march, but I haven't ridden it enough to have any opinion on the stock FCS fins.

If you are really good enough to feel the difference in fin characteristics, like flexibility, it would be worth your money to try popping in some different variations, until you find the one you really like. Fins are scientifically designed, but unless you are a scientist, what really makes the difference is what you are most comfortable riding.

Go to a good local surf shop and talk to them about your choices (FCS has a wide variety), and buy a different set and pop 'em in. If you don't like them, You'll be able to sell them to somebody else.

After 42 years of surfing (and getting pretty old and slow) the only real difference I notice from my fin set up is the drag coefficient. I ride a couple boards with  2+1 set up,  a couple three fins  and a twin fin fish.

Like I said, if you are good enough to notice that much difference, try 'em all until you find what you like best.

  4. Hey big guy, thought you might actually want an answer:

G7s, but if that's too boring for you, check out...

TC Redlines: Super drivey for speed and quick release off the top turns.

That's my suggestion. But if you're more interested in power surfing, deep rail gouges and destroying lips, get a set of Sunny Garcias.

Not sure what your style is yet? Go with the G7 or other large fin. Don't get too caught up in the tech hype, just pick a solid tried and tested fin and go with it. Getting tech is just a placebo for stoke unless your at an advanced level.

  5. go to fcs fin website they have tons of fins

    for lock box setup

    good luck and fun
