  1. That looks like a Cichlid. There very aggressive...

  2. It's a juvenile African cichlid.  Hard to tell exact species, although experts on Africans probably could.  Yes, they are very aggressive and should only be kept with other Africans.  Several in a tank of 30+ gallons is a beautiful sight to behold.

  3. That is some type of African or South American cichlid. I can't tell what species from the pic.

Yes, they are extremely aggressive fish & can really only live happily with others of the same species for the most part.

I recommend that you bring it to a fish or pet store and try to get store credit. It will not live for long at all in a bowl. Maybe just a couple of days.

    Good luck.

  4. it's a yellow labrichromis cichlid. and afircan and of average agression.. definately too agressive to be housed with typical community fish

if you didn't know what it was i doubt you have an african cichlid tank and thus an inadaquate tank for it..

return it to the store ASAP

  5. Once as a temporary measure to seperate a really aggressive fish until I could get it a new home was to

slide a sheet of plastic the right size into the tank to seal off one end.

The temperature will be ok like that, it will get light and if a tiny amount of water can cirulate through to the filter it should keep clean.  (If you cannot find a peice (or cut it to) the right width exactly, put it at a slight angle)

  6. the body shape and yellow color suggests lamprologus leleupi but the black edging on the doral says it's probably a labidochromis sp with shape distorted by the bowl's curved sides

  7. Looks like a cichlid, and yes it is aggressive - can only be with other cichlids.

You need to get it into a tank with a heater and filter or it will die.

  8. it looks like a  betta, very agressive u cant put any together until they r ready to mate http://www.najrickbettas.com/Gallery/Red...

  9. It's some kind of African cichlid, to narrow that down, not South o Central American.  I'm not too familiar with the African varieties, but if I had to guess, I woud say some kind of peacock variety.

EDIT:  "Cichlids" is a wide variety, not a particular species.   Not all cichlids are aggressive.  And a lot of "cichlids" will get along with other fish, including other cichlids just fine.

Here's a link, just did a quick search, looks more like a yellow lab:

  10. It's one of the Lake Malawi Cichlids, and yes,if you try to keep them in a tank that doesn't offer enough room for territoy they will get pushy. Don't you research these things before you buy them? Your fish isn't vicious, it's being kept in a dinky little tank that doesn't provide enough space for  a decent territory.

The problem is not the fish.
