What type of flooring is most advisable for patient rooms (particularly mental hospital)?

I would say that linoleum would be the best.  It's cheap, durable but does require some maintenance from time to time.  One of the reasons linoleum is good for health care and kitchen settings is that it is naturally anti-microbial.  And it's a green product, always has been!
