I saw a question showing all the Costa Rican holidays and I was wondering what kind of dishes are served during these holidays. Is there a traditional food served year to year? I am not from Costa Rica and I am very interested in this subject.

  1. The most important holiday: Christmas, and we serve pork meat, tamales, and in some cases turkey.  But tamales is the most popular dish, cooked in a plantain leaf.

  2. For Christmas, it would be Tamales. :-)

  3. Tamales ............Tamales........Tamales, some times "arroz con pollo" for birthdays.

  4. Around Eastern, a popular dessert is the "empanadas de chiverre" (white spaghetti squash turnovers). A lot of people make it at home, but you can find it in any supermarket.

On Christmas, the tamales are the most popular dish.

The most traditional dish server year round is the "gallo pinto" (rice and beans) for breakfast and the "casado" (rice, beans, fried plantains, with beef, chicken or pork chop) for lunch.
