  1. carbs like pasta not empty carbs

run a lot on flat surfaces and a lot of hills to strengthen your legs run like 5 miles one day (or what ever starting poing you pick) then build up from there and go a little over the finishing distance so you won't be too tired by the end and still have some stamina

    too do ab work

  2. I only ran a marathon when I thought I was ready for it, so looking at your question I have to think that you have been doing plenty of running already, and have checked out some of the training programs and are following one.

When I ran my marathons I did not have much money so had a pretty basic diet.

Morning breakfast of cereal & 2 pieces of toast.

Lunch was sandwiches & apple - I prefer white bread

Evening meal, usually sausage or mince with green veges and potatoes. This was a big plate full. And then usually a large plate of ice cream. If still hungry then bread.

You may read about carbo loading before a marathon. From my reading it is best to load and not deplete & load. Load up 3days before your marathon. I did this by having extra potatoes. I had 2 x 400gram pizzas the night before.

So an all round diet, with plenty of carbs like potatoes & pasta. I was also taking iron tablets as a supplement.

Ran 2.22 marathon with training of 100 miles plus/week on this in my first marathon. Had been running 15 years.
