I recently went to catch some frogs in a billybong (still water pond) I caught 2 Green frogs and 1 tree frog, Although I don't now what type of tree frog it is. It's small (1-4cm) and green back with yellow legs and stomach. no spots, stripes or other features, and has brown eyes. I've looked on the internet and still can't find anything.I don't know what to feed it but I will try to feed him fruit flies, small worms, and ants. Any idea what type of frog it is? (seen frog in south-western Ontario).

  1. it's most likely a southern mountain yellow legged frog. I suggest that you put it back where you found it. do some reaserch on it and see if it's endangered or not too.

  2. Southwestern Ontario?

    Almost certainly a grey treefrog.

    Hyla versicolor

They are called versicolor because they can change to match the color of the bark or leaves. So grey or green on the back.

They sometimes have egg yolk yellow on the inside of the legs and belly but not always.

Possibly Cope's treefrog (Hyla chrysoscelis), they are very similar. Cope's treefrog tends to be in the siuth and Gray treefrogs in the north.

  3. A common frog of your area is the chorus frog.

I am sure Canada has laws prohibiting the collecting and keeping of almost all frog and toad species, except for a few they classify as "game" species.  So, you are probably guilty of stealing or poaching.  I suggest you put the critters back.  You may not be aware of this, but you are stressing the life out of those poor frogs.  They will probably end up dead.
