As a rule the palms belong to family Arecaceae .

The fruits of the plants / tres from this family are ,botanically classified as , fibrous drupes .

Excellent example of fibrous drupe is a Coconut fruit . It is very large and the fibrous mesocarp is the only source of comercial coir . the core or the seed is edible and a source of coconut oil .

The gently arching, four to six-inch-wide, ringed, bamboo-like, green, multiple trunks are topped with curved, feathery, yellow-green fronds.
