  1. Rugby is a contact team sport using the skills of kicking, passing and catching. It is the type of game in which if you are not looking where you are going you'll end up seriously hurt!

    Peace

    -Go Wallabies!

  2. I want to say a mixture of football and soccer.

  3. Rugby is a form of football.

It is the second form of football.

Here are all the forms of football.

Football, (soccer in the USA, Canada, Ierland, Australia, New Zealand) uses a round ball where only the feet and head (except for play that goes into touch{out of bounds} or played by hand by the goalkeeper.  11 players per side.  Object is to kick or head ball into the opposion net.

Rugby Union, (also known as the Oval Nation) uses a oval ball. Can be played with 15,10, or 7 players per side.  Minor differences in the laws for each type.  Object is to ground (sometimes called dot) the ball in the try zone (end zone for American/Canadian football) for 5 points. Followed by a conversion (kicking ball through posts above a crossbar) where if successful you get an additional 2 points.  3 points are awarded for kicking a successfull goal either penalty (kicked off a tee) or a dropgoal(ball must be dropped to the ground before being kicked), same idea as the conversion (field goal in American/Canadian football).  While defending your tryline (goalline) you must tackle the ball carrier.  You man not pass the ball forward by hand.  You may pass the ball forward by kicking it.

You may pass the ball backwards by hand. (for more info read Rugby For Dummies).

Gaelic Football, Uses a round ball simular to a football(soccerball).  15 players per side.  You can pass the ball by kicking it or slapping it or punching it with your hand.  You can not throw the ball.   At each end of the field there is a goal (simular to a football(soccer)goal) with post's extending above the crossbar as well.  Points are awarded as follows.  3 points for putting the ball between the post's but below the crossbar(called a goal) and 1 point for putting the ball over the crossbar between the post's (called an over).  Inorder to score a goal you must kick the ball into the goal area.  To score an over you can either kick, punch, or slap the ball over the bar.

Australian Rules Football (previously known as Victorian Football).  All I know of Aussie Rules is that it is played on a oval field with I think 15 players perside using a oval ball (much smaller than a rugby ball {rugby and aussie rules balls are also known as 'footies'}).  You get 6 points for kicking a goal (between the 2 center post's) and 1 point for a behind (ball goes between one of the center post's and outer post's, 4 post's in all).

note:  there are no set number of tackles to attempt to score points in either football, rugby, and Aussie Rules footie.

Canadian Football, uses a oval ball (slightly bigger than a Aussie Rules ball), played with 12 players per side, you need to advance the ball at least 10 yards in 3 downs (plays) (for a first down) or give up possesion of the ball.  6 points are awarded for scoring a touchdown (all you have to do is break the plane of the goal line, you do not have to ground the ball as in rugby).  Followed by a convert (kicking ball through posts above the upright for 1 point).

3 points are awarded for kicking a field goal (same as convert).

The defence must stop the ball carrier by tackling the player to the ground.  If you tackle the ball carrier in his own endzone you are awarded 2 points and possesion of the ball after a freekick by the other team from its 20 yard line.  There is a way to score 1 point called a single, not sure of that rule.

American Football, uses a oval ball slightly smaller than a Canadian ball, 11 players per side.  You must advance the ball at least 10 yards in 4 plays or give up possesion of the ball.  Besides the single point awarded in Canadian Football the scoring is the same.  Also played in Amercian universites.  There are minor rule differences between the 2.

Rugby League, uses a oval ball just like Rugby Union.  13 players per side.  You must score with in 5 tackles or give up possesion of the ball.  4 points are awarded for a try, 2 points for a conversion, and 2 points for a penalty kick at goal, and 1 for a drop goal.

Arena Football, played in the USA.  Same sized ball as in American football.  Played indoors on a field that is 50 yards long(goal line to goal line) the with is that of a North American Hockey rink.  Endzones vary due to space available on the floor of the building.  Scoring is the same as in American football.

There you have all the forms of football that I know of and in the order of there entry into the fabric of sports history.
