  1. SO2 sulfur dioxide, which can be oxidized to SO3 which is the anhydride of sulfuric acid. Also NO which can be oxidized further to NO2 the anhydride of nitric acid.

    SO3 + H2O ------ H2SO4

    NO2 + H2O --- HNO3

  2. The principal culprit is sulfur dioxide, which oxidized to sulfur trioxide and becomes sulfuric acid.

  3. have you ever "Googled?"

I bet if you type "acid rain" in a Google search box, you'll get tons of answers ... no disrespect for other responders here, but you get a LOT of sources when you Google, including Wikipedia and many scientific sites. You'll also get complete articles, not just short, terse, pithy 2-word answers.

    Try it, you'll like it.

  4. Sulfur dioxide and nitric oxide.
