  1. Ecuador is a republic. It has a democratic government. Ecuador's government is divided into three major branches: executive, legislative and judicial. There are 21 different provinces within Ecuador. These 21 separate provinces have their own distinct governments and functions. Elections are held to decide the President in Ecuador. The minimum age of voter must be 18 and maximum 65. It is essential for all Ecuadorians to vote and elect a democratic representative as their president.

The new constitution strengthens the executive branch by eliminating mid-term congressional elections and by restricting Congress' power to challenge and remove cabinet ministers. Also, soon after the new Constitution took effect Congress passed a code of ethics that seeks to strengthen Ecuador's political parties, which historically have been small and weak. The code of ethics imposes penalties on party members who vote contrary to their party on key votes.
