I have a large flower bed that contains grey owl junipers, crepe myrtle, wisteria and something else, but is being overtaken by bermuda grass. Is there anything I can use on it that will kill grass but not my flowers. I researched grass b gone but it specifically says that it will kill anything it touches.

  1. Unfortunately, 'elbow grease' is the best thing you can use in the situation you describe.  Everything else has the potential to kill, or at least, make you others plants very sick.

  2. Because grass is a common victim to herbicides you are better off pulling the bermudga grass out by hand.  Grab the grass deep by its underground stolens as they spread out.  This way you do less harm to your flowers.

  3. Yep if it kills grass it kills it all grass is tuff stuff you just have to pull it or cover it with carpet depriving it light till it dies

  4. There is a product that works faily well, and can be applied over the top of most ornementals.

It is called Ornamec Over the Top from PBI Gordon.

It is available at some Farm Stores like Tractor Supply, or from a professional landscape supplier like john Deere landscapes.

    I have included a link.

Best to try to control the bermuda right before it goes into dormency, or right after it comes out. This is it's weakest stage, and easier to control.

  5. Hello, I have a one acre garden and the problem you described is always an issue in several areas in my garden. I always use a commerical product called Grass B Gone too, and it will kill the grasses only and has never killed any ornamental plants, flowers, trees, shrubs or vines.

The instructions on my spray bottle of Grass B Gone, specifically states that it is safe to spray around junipers and not to spray on the foilage or needles as they will turn brown. Use a large piece of cardboard to screen and protect the junipers from the spray and spray only on a calm day. Avoid spraying anything on windy days. I have been using it around my garden for years and I have never lost anything from using this product.  Nothing will kill wisteria unless it is a brush or broad leaf kill spray. Grass sprays kill only narrow leaf grasses listed on the bottle.

It's OK, Really!! Happy spraying! Read the directions on the bottle to reasure that your

attempt to rid your flower beds of the grass invasion is safe. There was nothing on my bottle of Grass B Gone which specifically states it will kill anything it touches. Maybe your thinking of Weed B Gone. Now that stuff will kill everything it touches. So check the labels again and you will find that Grass B Gone is formulated only to kill the grasses listed on the bottle. Happy gardening....

  6. Well I'll get some thumbs down with this one but it works. Mix up some grass b gone, round up, or any other broad spectrum herbicide. Then get you a Playtex glove put it on then a cotton garden glove turn it in side out so the fuzzy part is out. Put your weed killer in something like a milk jug. Get out there on your hands and knees and poor some out in your hand. Then wipe it over the bermuda. When you step where you wipe and step out onto your lawn there will be a foot print of dead or hurt grass there so start at the back and work your way out. Get a herbicide that is neutral to the soil so it doesn't hurt your plants unless you get it on the green leaf surface. The other way is to cut the bottom of a gallon milk jug out and put your herbicide in a pump up sprayer. Just put the milk jug on the ground and stick the nozzle of the pump up sprayer in the top and spray and move and spray and move. I like the glove better because you can just wipe in on all over. The other way is to just pull and pull and pull when you get tired pull some more. I used the glove method around my roses works good on nut grass too.
