What type of guitar effects pedal for Slash solo sound?

Question

Ive spent a few months learning my pentatonics but my guitar sounds a bit boring without an effects pedal...what type of effects pedal would be used to get a good sound to play solos?

I mean the the Master of Puppets solo sort of noise if that helps lol

Those hard rock and metal guys get their "tone" by creating more gain at every stage of input.  That means you want to distort your signal from the time it goes into the amp to when it comes out of the speaker.  

Best way to do that is to get a decent overdrive or distortion pedal.  Then, tweak your amp to get overdrive out of that (assuming you have an overdrive channel).  So between your pedal and your amp's "dirty" channel (again, assuming you have one), you should get closer to that sound you're wanting.

Wah pedals are nice too, as the last answerer said; but I think an OD or distortion pedal by Boss would be a little more versatile for you.
