  1. Smith and wesson .38 special. It is very small, light and fast shooting. buy the hammer-less version. its got a 5 shot capacity. which is more than enough to kill or wound someone. model number 637. it is 6.5 inches long

  2. Sounds like you're clueless about guns.  I would not recommend someone like you get a gun a this point.  Get some experience first.  Meet gun owners, join a range, and take some safety classes.

  3. I am a cop in the USA (Ohio), so I have no idea about the legal issues in Canada, but as for the weapon, my recommendation would be a revolver, as it is the simplest type of gun to shoot for someone who doesn't shoot often.  As for caliber, I'd say either a .32 or a .38, maybe a 9mm, but nothing bigger.  It's better to hit them with something small than to miss with something big.

    If it's only for home-defense, then I'd also recommend a .410 shotgun, loaded with 3-pellet 00-buck shot.

  4.   First, I wasn't aware that Canadians were allowed to own handguns, but to the question.

For personal protection, and fairly close range, say 15 meters or so, fora small frame female, a .32 cal Beretta loaded with Speer Gold Dot ammo is a good choice, and if a heavier caliber is desired a .380 Bersa loaded with Federal Hydra-Shok is an excellent choice.

Both of these choices are very reliable and easy to handle, and not too expensive.

  5. Taurus judge revolver.  Can chamber .44, .45, .410 shotgun shells or signal flares.  The recoil can dislocate your shoulder, but hey, we want to shoot the bad guys right?

Seriously, before you ask a question like that, investigate other options.  Don't just "get a gun" because you think you need protection.  Start with learning the law regarding its use, take some martial arts course, carry pepper spray.  Work your way up to a gun.  If you have an immediate threat, you can find other ways to deal with it.  Carrying a firearm is a very serious issue and carries with it some serious responsibilities.

  6. You'll get all kinds of advice on this one; from getting a small easy to use gun to a big gun. I bought a ruger .22 because the ammo is cheaper and I can practice with it a lot more. I know a lot of people will laugh at that, but I'd rather have a small one than not have a gun at all.

Safety should be your number one thought in this process, as well. It would be a tragedy for you to buy something for protection if you ended up hurting yourself or someone else.

I did go shoot a 10 mm before I bought one, and it was a lot more than I was used to. So if you have a shooting range around that lets you rent guns and lanes to shoot on, you could try something out to see how you like it. Just be sure and get something you like!

  7. get a pepper spray and/or a teaser and some self-defence clases. you don't need a gun.

  8. I'd go with a 9mm, semi-automatic.

  9. a tazer

  10. You should practice with different models and calibers.  For self defense the "best gun" is the largest caliber you can hit your target with 100% of the time, in the minimal amount of time, repeatedly.

For me, this is 45ACP, for someone else it could be a 22Magnum, each person is different.

  11. An H&K (Heckler and Kock) 9mm... very smooth firing, easy to use, and has a very good safety.  And it's small.  It's very accurate within 50 ft, but for safety, you are really looking at shooting within 15ft... and it's accuracy is amazing.
