  1. Shotguns are better suited for hunting birds. A rifle is better to use on big game. I don't know about hunting cougars, alligators, javelina, and buffalo, but I know a rifle in .270 winchester, .30-06 springfield, .308 winchester, .280 remington, and 7mm remington magnum are good calibers for deer and elk. A rifle in .22 long rifle is a good choice for small game up to the size of foxes, while a .223 remington or a .22-250 remington are suited for hunting coyotes. For antelope, try the .243 Winchester.

  2. Well, I suppose, given your intended prey, I recommend you get several different firearms.  A gun is a tool, and like other tools, isn't suited for every job.

  3. You certainly have a mixed-bag of game there, but you can't go wrong with a Remington 870 12 gauge pump.  Kinda an over-kill for cougar and javalina, though.  Be sure and use slugs rather than buckshot.  Also, if you do get the 870 get the rifled barrel with rifle sights and use sabot slugs.  Once you get used to it you'll find it shoots like a carbine.

    Happy hunting.

  4. Any Brand 12 gauge shotgun using sabots, or rifled slugs.* The vast majority of big game is harvested within 100 yards or less.* In a Rifle for African Big Game use a 375 H&H Magnum.* A 30-06 for everything else.*

  5. You don't shoot gators at long range.  Most are caught on large hooks and dispatched with a .22 before pulling them into the boat.

Javelina and cougar are great for handgun hunting, especially if you are hunting the cats with dogs.  You will be glad to have both hands free for scrambling up a steep slope or through a briar patch.  Lots of cougar have been killed with .22 pistols, but I'd rather have a .357 Magnum or .44 RemMag for both cougar and javelina.

For big stuff like elk, moose, buffalo, I'd want a medium or large bore, or a large bore with medium power, hey!  I just specified the .45-70 Gov't cartridge.  Yep, I could live with a Marlin M-1895 or Winchester M-1886 in .45-70 as my elk/moose/buffalo rifle.  And if needed, I can handload heavy loads that would be great for the big bears.

  6. 22 rifle..

    or a

    30 ot 6

and as a side arm 357 magnium

  7. A 270 is an all around good  round for what you listed, I have taken elk, deer, javelina with a 270. Probably would take down a buffalo, I think 30/06 would be overkill for cougars, javelina and gators.

  8. Shotguns aren't reliable for long range, only for 30 yards.  I would suggest a .308.  They use it to kill elephants.

  9. A 12-bore Paradox should do well, if you can find one.

  10. if you wanted to be really cool you could use a 50 cal but there wont be anything of the game left

depends do youw ant a close range or a distant kill

    30 ot 6 is what i like

  11. 30-30 has taken all of those and then some.  It might be marginal on buffalo but then you are just talking out of your rear end anyways

  12. I have never hunted any of these animals, but for Bear or Deer a 30/30! For coyotes and small game a 22. But Grouse and Turkey a 12 gauge!*
