I recently purchased 2 female Robo hamsters, but they did not like being held at all. So I returned them and am now looking for a friendly hamster that would like to be held

  1. most hamsters dont really like to be held much. they want to run out of your hand. they just dont know that you are giving them lovins like cats and dogs. but it is easier to hold a sryian hamster, if you didnt know teddy bear is a breed of sryian. but they HAVE to be kept separate. they will fight and may kill one another. you can not keep two or more in the same cage if they dont all die, all but one will. i have had three sryain hamsters and my second one let me hold her no problem, the first one did not however. if you want to get one, get it as young as possible so you can tame it. once syrian hamsters are tame, they remain tame, even if negated. or try to get an older one that is already tame and people friendly. you should really spend a while with the hamsters before you buy to choose the right one. but in all i think they are great, loving pets.

oh and crittertail one is a bit small, but can be upgraded with tubes, external wheel and external hideouts connected with tubes. if the play pen has a floor he is comfortable on then it adds needed living space. and even if you just keep the cage as is, he will have a better home then a lot of hamsters.

  2. You should defiantly get a "Teddy Bear" (pet store name) aka Syrian. They are a bigger breed of hamster but are so loving and much less skittish then Robo hamsters. I have one and he loves to be held and cuddled, he will sit there and let me rub his belly all the time. However, if you do get a Syrian you're going to have to get a larger cage considering they are big hamsters.
