What type of hard drive enclosure do I need for a old laptop drive PATA 120 gb?

My hard drive type is a 120 GB PATA drive most the enclosures i have found are sata and IDE will PATA drives work in a IDE enclosure? any thing else i need to know?

  1. It is an IDE type enclosure you need not SATA.

    Nothing else you need to know, very easy to do :)


  2. Yes Paralell ATA and IDE are the same interface IDE refers to the type of interface for the drive. ATA either serial or parallel, refers to the method of transferring data along the cable.

    PATA has a 40 pin IDE connection. SATA has 7 pin connector. PATA has a 4 pin molex power connector. SATA has a 15 pin power cable.
