I love roller blading in the warm months but I would like to take up ice skating in the winter. I usually roller blade quickly around a track for exercise. What type of ice skates would be good to use in an ice skating rink for the same purpose.

  1. Maybe since you're an avid rollerblader, hockey skates would be the way to go.  They would tend to be most like a roller blade and are more built for speed.

Or, if you have a need for speed, check your area for a speed skating club.  Even if there isn't a rink with a large track for speedskating, they also use hockey rinks.  :)

  2. it depends what your going to do.if your going to play hockey, then i would recommend  the vapor 40 skates.they work well. if your just starting then i would go figure skating. at first i would go to any ice rink and ask for rentals to make sure your comfortable.

  3. So you're just taking up ice skating?

First of all, I would invest on a little bit better pair of ice skates if you're looking to stay with it for a while. I highly recommend you don't buy a $20 dollar pair or any cheap pair... if you go fast and can skate a little more aggressively, they will provide no support for your ankles and hurt your feet.

Make sure you like it first though, even if it means getting some rental skates just to test it out. If you plan to keep going skating, I would go into a shop that specializes in skates so they are fit correctly, and are up to par with your skating abilities.
