  1. funnel web spider, found in australia

  2. depending on where you are, it may also be the larva of an antlion.   (Myrmeleon sp.)  They dig holes about 2 inches deep and maybe 3 inches across at the top.  Any ant that walks in or is pelted in by the larva throwing some sand at it, falls to the bottom and is sucked dry by the larva.  They are really great insects to watch.  Here's a pic of the trap http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co...

The adults look a bit like a dragon or damsel fly, though they're not really related.  http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3229/2713...

  3. Several types. The two you are most likely to see are the trap-door spiders, which make silk-lined tunnels in the soil, and some moths, particularly large moths such as Bogongs, burrow into the soil, and exit after metamorphosis from silk lined tunnels in the soil. These are common in Australia, but other parts of the world have there own versions.

    .

  4. None of the spider answers are correct. Spiders are not insects.

The antlion makes a funnel like hole in soft dirt. Ants fall downhill and cannot get out before eaten.

  5. like funnel web?

I have those on my back yard. The insect that creates that is a wolf spider.
