What type of job works on the arment of aircraft?

Do private firms run it or do the airforce run it? also what kind of engineering is it? thanks

  1. Do you mean weapons development? Or, mounting weapons on aircraft?

    If the former, yes contractors do the development, under guidance of the service that owns the aircraft.  Many weapons are now joint programs.

    AFA the latter, that is a military job specialty, as it requires a lot of training to maintain, inspect, and properly load munitions.


  2. The manufacturers/contractors supply the on board armament. These would necessarily be civilians.The air forces have their own armament people who look after the weapon systems. It is a specialised branch and entails a lot of training and specific equipment knowledge. The advance weapons systems would also require higher security clearances for the armourers. There is no specialised kind of engineering, just basic mechanical background (with the relevant required degrees etc) and then on the job training after the proper indoctrination.
