Question:

What type of light to put in my cold water fish tank?

I'm thinking about buying a new aquarium for some cold water fish, probably fancy gold fish or normal goldfish. I know you put lights in the tanks, but i don't know which type and the amount of watts it should be. Obviously it can't heat the water, as they live in cold water, and it can't be too dim or weak that the plants won't live inside. Please help, all answers are received gracefully. Thanks! :)

  1. Goldfish will happily snack on your plants, so it kind of wouldn't work from the beginning.  Plus fancies need 20gals and commons need 50 or more if you didn't know that.  I doubt the water will be too badly heated.  Just get what you would for a tropical.  Maybe some white cloud mountain minnows.  Good luck.  (:
