  1. Red is left port> Green right starboard> anchor and a white stern light> Look on C Guard webs sight for inland or offshore> for your size craft>

  2. according to BoatUS here's what they have to say from their web site:

    Placement of Navigation Lights

Boats under 23' may carry a 360° lantern or flashlight in lieu of running lights. Also, international regulations allow sailboats under 65.6' (20 meters) to display a single masthead tricolor navigation light while under sail. All-around lights must be a minimum of 1 meter (39 3/8") above the red/green sidelights on boats under 12 meters (39.4 ft).

BUT YOU SHOULD CHECK WITH YOUR STATE LAWS TO SEE IF THEY DIFFER!

  3. red and green on front, look at another boat to see which side. then, you need a white light at the back of the boat that can be visible form any angle on the water. it is also a good idea to have a couple of flashlights and a spotlight to point out buoys, docs, areas in the boat, etc.

  4. red on the right green on the left and white at the back usually on the right but I have seen it on the left

  5. The required navigation lights differ depending on the type and size of your vessel.

Less than 12 meters you may display an all-round white light and sidelights.  In a vessel of less than 20 meters in length the sidelights may be combined in one lantern.

Navigation lights are the same in all states and same world wide for power driven vessels.
